Belinda Carlisle found fame singing in the Go-Go’s, an innovative all-female band. Her fame came at a high price the singer admitted that she was hooked on a daily cocaine habit for 30 straight years (with nine months of sobriety during her pregnancy). Belinda Carlisle finally decided to kick the habit when she began worrying that her teenage son might find her dead of an overdose. Much like rapper Eminem, Belinda Carlisle found that after she got sober, she began struggling with a weight problem.
Belinda Carlisle has a history of weight problems and disordered eating. At one point, she weighed herself 10 to 15 times daily, obsessing over comparing her body to Madonna’s. “I thought she looked phenomenal because she was skinnier than me,”* Carlisle admitted. After starving herself and counting every single calorie, Belinda would binge eat sometimes consuming 6,000 calories in one session. She also became an exercise addict, forcing herself to work out on the treadmill for hours on end.
In 2008, Belinda Carlisle decided to leave the dieting decisions to someone else. She signed up to be a spokeswoman for a diet delivery service. In the first four months, she lost 20 pounds. Belinda has managed to keep the weight off, indicating that she’s finally learned to incorporate healthy choices into her meal plan.
On a typical day on Belinda Carlisle’s diet program, she might eat apple cinnamon oatmeal for breakfast, paired with a protein shake. A midmorning snack might include a hard-boiled egg and some low-sodium vegetable juice. Carlisle might eat celery sticks with peanut butter for lunch, paired with one of the diet program’s meal replacement bars. An afternoon snack is a cup of strawberries with 1 tbsp. of fat-free whipped topping. Belinda Carlisle might eat prepackaged spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, paired with fresh, sautéed zucchini and onions and a whole grain roll. Dessert would feature more prepackaged diet food, like a low-fat peanut butter cookie.
We like the frequent snacking in this diet program because it helps prevent overeating at mealtime. Belinda’s breakfast and snacks seem pretty healthy, offering her a balance of protein, whole grains, veggies, and fresh fruits. However, it doesn’t seem that eating celery sticks and a meal replacement bar for lunch would be very satisfying. Instead, we’d recommend a large green salad topped with grilled chicken and a low-fat dressing.
These days, Belinda Carlisle often does yoga in the mornings, followed by a hike. She also did a stint on “Dancing with the Stars” in 2009; however, it’s unclear if she has kept up with the dance practices since then. We’d recommend adding some strength training to this workout routine. Building muscle mass helps increase the metabolism for more efficient weight loss.
