From all accounts, it appears that Sheryl Crow has always eaten a generally healthy diet, but after her diagnosis of breast cancer, she needed to increase her vitamin intake. Sheryl Crow worked with a nutritionist and her personal chef to incorporate cancer-fighting veggies and spices into her diet.
Her approach to meal planning included eating seasonal, fresh foods grown locally. Crow avoids processed foods, preferring vitamin-rich, colorful ingredients. For example, instead of white cabbage, she’ll use purple cabbage for a greater array of vitamins and nutrients.
Sheryl Crow isn’t a vegetarian, but her meals center around vegetables, rather than red meats and other fattening foods. Studies have shown that a predominantly plant-based diet is lower in saturated fat, and can reduce your risk for cancer. Other cancer-fighting foods include cruciferous vegetables and salmon, as well as spices like turmeric and ginger. Flavoring your foods with spices also helps reduce the use of salt.
A typical daily diet for Sheryl Crow, post-cancer, includes lots of salmon. For lunch, she might eat brown rice, salmon, and assorted vegetables. A favorite dinner is basil and apple marinated chicken, which Sheryl might pair with squash and green vegetables. For snacks, she’ll likely eat fruits, such as apples.
Sheryl Crow even incorporates vegetables into her breakfasts with foods like zucchini muffins or corn and thyme pancakes. Crow prefers to eat organic foods. While she’s never had a huge sweet tooth, Sheryl Crow now incorporates healthy desserts into her diet to help ensure she gets a wide range of nutrients. Since dark cocoa contains antioxidants, she might eat a mousse made with dark cocoa or a flourless dark chocolate cake.
Before her breast cancer diagnosis, Sheryl Crow enjoyed taking very long bicycle rides. Every day, she’d bike for about two and a half hours, or she’d take an hour-long run. These days, Sheryl Crow enjoys a commercial exercise program that combines cardio with strength training. The program uses intense exercises like plyometrics, martial arts, ab workouts, weight training, and intense yoga.
