Johnny Depp is using a new diet to drop a few pounds for an upcoming vampire flick, and it involves a lot of brew. The green tea kind, not the brewski kind. Johnny Depp isn’t really known for dramatic weight fluctuations for his film roles, unlike notables like Renee Zellweger and Christian Bale. But to get into character for his vampire role in “Dark Shadows,” Depp decided to try out a more gaunt appearance.

It’s reported that Johnny Depp wanted to drop down to about 140 lbs. To get there, he drank an absurd amount of green tea every day. Depp hasn’t shared many additional details regarding his weight loss diet, but he’s also been known to snack on healthy fruits like pineapples and strawberries.

Green tea is a healthy addition to any diet. It can help promote digestion, regulate blood sugar levels, and even improve heart health. Green tea is also a diuretic, which means that it helps the kidneys remove excess water from the body. Some studies have also shown that green tea extract (specifically, the polyphenols) may help boost the metabolism and improve the body’s ability to burn fat.

That said, we don’t recommend that you go chow down on fast food burgers and expect a cup of green tea to balance it out. Instead, use green tea to complement a healthy, balanced diet and a regular workout routine.

Prior to working on “Dark Shadows,” Johnny Depp famously portrayed the scalawag pirate, Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series. All that sword-fighting left him exhausted, and he realized he needed to get in better shape. Depp worked on cutting down on his cigarette habit and cleaned up his diet.

A typical daily diet for Johnny Depp might include hard boiled eggs for breakfast, along with fresh fruits like blueberries and strawberries. He also likes to snack on exotic fruits like pineapple and kiwi. For lunch, Depp often ate tuna packed in water, and he typically dined on lean chicken breast for dinner. Depp also enjoys soy milk and Japanese-style noodles. Fresh fruit and lean protein is great, but this diet definitely needs some veggies and more complex carbs. We’d recommend putting the tuna over a fresh vegetable salad.

When he was trying to quit cigarettes, Johnny Depp wisely used exercise to distract him from his cravings. On the set of “Pirates,” he’d often jump in the swimming pool whenever he felt a nicotine craving. Plus, he had those grueling sword-fighting sessions. Johnny Depp is also reported to use a mix of plyometric exercises and weight training to stay in shape.
